MINUTES
The Jackson County School Board met in a regular Board Workshop on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Jackson County School Board office. Dr. Terry Nichols, Chairman of the Board, called the meeting to order with the following members present: Mr. Kenneth Griffin, Vice-Chairman, Mrs. Betty Duffee, Mrs. Charlotte Gardner and Mr. Chris Johnson; Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Daniel G. Sims, and Attorney for the Board, Mr. Frank Bondurant.
Chairman Nichols stated that this is a workshop and anyone may address the Board about an item on the agenda after being recognized.

State Tournament – Final 4
Superintendent Sims stated that this team had an outstanding season, and a championship would have been great, but only four teams went to the state tournament and these were four very talented teams. Mrs. Shirl Williams, Director of Student Services, introduced the members of the team and Superintendent Sims presented each member with a certificate. He gave them an opportunity to address the Board. Brandon Gibson thanked the Board for their support and thanked his fellow teammates. Coach Travis Blanton thanked the team and the Board for their support adding that he was very proud of his team and their accomplishments. Team Members include:

Dr. Nichols asked if employees hired back at specific schools could have movement within the school district. Mr. Moore, Director of Personnel stated that this could happen.
ITEM #5: FINANCIAL MATTERS
B. Approval
of Independent Benefits Council 403(b)/457 (b) Model Plan
Mr. St. Cyr, Director of Finance addressed the Board stating that this will bring the Board into compliance and offer better products for the school district employees
Mr. St. Cyr also spoke to the Board about the revised FEFP calculations and the effect it will have on the budget for the remainder of the 2007-08 school year and the budget for next year.
ITEM #6: CONTRACTS/RESOLUTIONS/AGREEMENTS

Approval of
Purchase Orders Over $10,000.00
Mrs. Gardner asked about the projectors that have been approved for purchase and when they will be installed and ready to use.
Mr. Dickson, Director of Facilities addressed the question stating that the projectors should be ready to use when schools starts back in August.
ITEM #8: FACILITIES AND CONSTRUCTION
D. Approval of Bids for Portable Classrooms
Mr. Dickson, Director of Facilities, addressed the Board stating that he would have the bids available for Board approval at the meeting on Tuesday.

The Jackson County School Board met in an advertised “Out Of The Sunshine” Meeting on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Jackson County School Board office. Dr. Terry Nichols, Chairman of the Board, called the meeting to order with the following members present: Mr. Kenneth Griffin, Vice-Chairman, Mrs. Betty Duffee, Mrs. Charlotte Gardner and Mr. Chris Johnson; Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Daniel G. Sims, and School Board Attorney, Mr. Frank Bondurant. Also present were Ms. Elysha Luken, Attorney representing the Board and a court reporter.
Chairman Nichols stated that this meeting was called at the request of the Board’s attorney, Mr. Bondurant.
Mr. Bondurant stated that this special meeting was called to
discuss litigation with Sharpe, Inc., contractors associated with building
With that, the meeting went into a closed session at approximately 1:05 p.m.
After this session concluded, the Board entered into a public meeting. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at approximately 2:45 p.m.

The Jackson County School Board met in a regular Board Meeting on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Jackson County School Board office. Dr. Terry Nichols, Chairman of the Board, called the meeting to order with the following members present: Mr. Kenneth Griffin, Vice-Chairman, Mrs. Betty Duffee, Mrs. Charlotte Gardner and Mr. Chris Johnson; Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Daniel G. Sims and Attorney for the Board, Mr. Frank Bondurant. After everyone stood for the Pledge of Allegiance, Mr. Johnson led in prayer.
Chairman Nichols stated that discussion about each item had taken place at the Board Workshop. However, he added, if anyone wanted to address an item on the agenda, they may do so after filling out a card requesting to speak to that item. No one made a request.
With a motion by Mrs. Duffee, seconded by Mr. Johnson and with a unanimous vote, the Board approved the agenda and included the “Just Cause” item.

Mr. Sims stated that cheerleading is a year-round activity that is recognized as a sport. He added that these students and their sponsor put in many hours of practice, and are being recognized for the hard work that made them very successful in winning the state competition. He thanked the students and sponsor for having a successful year. Mr. Moore, Director of Personnel, introduced the students and Superintendent Sims presented each one with a certificate.
