WHAT IS THE GED?

The Tests of General Educational Development (GED) are developed
by the American Council on Education to enable persons who have not
graduated from high school to demonstrate the abilities normally obtained
through high school course work.

REGISTRATION

Individuals who wish to take the GED must register and pay their fees in advance.
ALL registration materials must be completed by 3:00 p.m.
on the Monday before the desired test date.

              (Sign-up takes approx. 20 minutes).

  • Be 18 years of age (16 or 17? see below)
  • Provide Florida Driver's License or picture ID obtained from FL DMV
  • Provide valid Social Security card or other taxpayer documentation listing a valid Social Security number.
  • Has not graduated from an accredited high school or received  a high school diploma
  • Full Battery -- $60.00
    ($55.00 w/Pre-GED Test Score of
    450 or more in each subject area)
     
  • All Partial Tests -- $12.00

SCORING REQUIREMENTS

The candidate must score a minimum of 410 in each subject area test AND
an overall total of 2,250 to earn a State of Florida High School Diploma. 
The maximum score for each subject area test is 800.
If any of the passing requirements are not met, the GED candidate may retake the entire battery of tests or any of the individual tests not passed.   The highest score for each subject area is always kept.  After the third testing and using up all three forms available for each subject area test, the candidate must wait until the new test forms are issued from GEDTS in Washington, D. C.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT STEPS FOR 16 OR 17 YEAR OLD PERSONS

  1. Withdraw from home school. 

  2. Contact Ad Ed to schedule a meeting with Tom Hermann, Guidance Counselor (850) 482-9617 ext. 228.  Student and Parent/Guardian are required to meet with Guidance office for enrollment. 

  3. Bring copy of withdrawal, State of Florida DMV photo ID, and Social Security card to meeting at Adult Ed.

  4. Enroll in Adult Ed.  You will be given appointment to take the TABE test.  If you score high enough on the TABE test, you will be scheduled to take the GED Official Practice test.  Testing time is approximately four hours.  Students must score a minimum of 500 on each of the five sections.  A "Request for Justification" letter will be issued by the teacher if the student passes any or all parts of the practice test.

  5. Make appointment (718-0547, ext. 255) with GED Chief Examiner, Linda Neel, to sign the
    official justification form.  Bring the "Request for Justification" letter (issued by your teacher)
    with you and a parent/guardian to the appointment.   
    NOTE:  Signatures of the applicant and their parent/legal guardian are required.

  6. Register for the GED test in a timely manner.  (See above requirements).
