Home Strategies and Interventions for Parents

¨ Remember – you are the expert on your child’s strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes ¨ Share historical information ¨ Keep scheduled conferences so your child can receive services, if necessary, without delay ¨ Share your expectations and concerns with the team ¨ Bring a list to the meeting of issues you want discussed and things that are important to you ¨ Share information about what your child does at home ¨ Share information about changes at home that may affect your child’s learning and /or behavior ¨ Talk with your child at home and listen to his/her concerns and ideas ¨ Make sure your child is healthy – plenty of rest, healthy meals and snacks ¨ Encourage your child to do his/her best ¨ Provide a good example or role model for your child ¨ Provide a quiet place for your child to work without interruptions ¨ Supervise and supplement required homework ¨ Provide specific interventions at home that have been recommended by the team ¨ Complete questionnaires requested by the team ¨ Maintain communication with teacher(s) McKay Scholarship Program—Parent Notification Letter Parents check the DOE Publication page for information concerning: · McKay Scholarship Program · Opportunity Scholarship Program · Corporate Tax Credit Scholarship Program · Charter Schools · Virtual Education · Home Education These publications are available in English and Spanish Also available is a 24 page booklet entitled “School Choice Options” Check out these and other valuable Department of Education information available on the DEO Publications page.
